This was our second attempt at the 10 mile route this year, and it wasn’t any nicer than the first one. Quite a brisk north westerly wind made it hard work on the way out, and not everyone enjoyed the push home either. Later riders were hit with a shower, but it didn’t amount to much. Oh, and did I mention it was cold?
That man Kelman took the honours once again, with an impressive 22:26. Second was Mike Spalding in 23:47 and third in 24:11 was Kevin Watson. Shelley Farrar’s first EL outing of this season produced a win – Shelley rode a 25:39. Ashley Pearson was second lady tonight, in 26:34, and Jackie Laing managed third with a 29:06.
Robbie Walton was once again our only junior to ride. Robbie’s time was 31:12.
In the handicap section Alan Buchan triumphed for the second week running and took the 80 points on offer. The modified handicapping system we are using this year may be struggling to keep up with Alan’s improvement (an improvement of 6:46 from week 1 to week 3!), but I’m confident it will iron things out in the long run. Thomas McLeman was second on handicap, and Ian Wilson was third.
Last week’s League Table leader Greg Quinn didn’t ride tonight so there’s been quite a change here: Kelvin White now tops the table on 450 with Kevin Watson hot on his heels on 448. Third is Thomas McLeman on 414, followed by Ian Grant (408) and Alastair Scott-Kiddie, Steve Durham and Laurent Schirrer, all on 403. Ashley Pearson leads the ladies event – but there is a long way to go yet.
Next week is the 18 mile circuit starting from Garlogie and going through Dunecht, Midmar and Echt. It can be a hard one if the weather’s bad – so let’s hope for a nicer night then tonight. Remember to enter or to get your name down to marshal through the DTCC website.
Cheers,
Dick
I wasn't able to be there last night to share your suffering so I can't comment on the Event. From what Dick says, cold and windy, I probably wouldn't have reached my new Standard anyway so it's probably just as well I missed it. If Stewart couldn't I wouldn't.
Phil is way ahead again but Mike put in a great ride for second place. Shelly is an excellent third on the podium with the new improved Ladies' Standards which is just where a bronze medal on the Scottish Championships should be. The new improved Ian, shelling out PBs though not last night, is a very honourable fourth. Calum and Steve take the 50+ and 60+ categories at 6th and 7th place with respectable plusses which rather spoils my theory that older riders don't stand a chance. Well done the old(er) guys. (Once I get started I expect to back up my theory.)
Four ladies riding last night was very good to see. Don't let the sub 40 Divas steal all the glory (e.g. 1 and 2 in the Caledonia).
